Solo jazz pianist & accompaniest
I perform regularly as solo lounge bar entertainment or with the jazz duo/quartet ‘Standard Deviation’. As we are interested in swing dance, the band has focused on dance styles of the swing era including early blues styles, charleston, lindy hop, jitterbug and belbao.
Standard Deviation performs for corporate functions, or swing dance events as either a duo with myself on piano and Andrew Healey on vocals, or as four-piece jazz quartet with Dave Cowley on drums and Stuart McClaren on bass. See the Standard Deviation website.
I also work as an accompanist for singers or instrumentalists in classcial or popular/jazz styles. If you wish, I can rehearse for an audition or exam accompanist.
As a singer, I have worked with and led children and adult choirs in styles from 16th century polyphony to world music.
I also specialise in latin styles, having written two songs for the latest CD by Juliana Areias.
As a percussionist I set up the first samba school in Auckland – ‘Samba Academica’. I provide workshops in Brazilian percussion styles on request. See my book on samba.
A song I wrote for Max Whitehead's show on Radio Live.
